Our company undertook and successfully completed the reconstruction of a new building while maintaining its neoclassical identity. Specifically, in a building constructed in 1923 on Kriezotou Street, demolition works were carried out, reinforcement of the existing brickwork using shotcrete (gunite), excavations, new foundations, construction of a new load-bearing structure made of ductile iron and sandwich slabs as well as completion of all building and electromechanical works and the delivery of the building in full operation.

The removal stage included both the removal of part of the brickwork and the plasters as well as the internal arrangements. At each stage of dismantling, the structural adequacy of the existing masonry had to be ensured, which was achieved by the use of shotcrete (gunite) and the installation of metal braces made of pig iron.

A reinforced concrete header was placed on the roof of the masonry for the stabilization of the preserved parts.

In order to meet the requirements of the design of the new building, 4 metal beams of approximately 8 m length each had to be placed within the masonry and connected to the existing structural elements using special non-shrinkable materials.

The excavation of the building was carried out in sections so that the concreting of the walls would not endanger the consistency of the masonry and it would not be disturbed due to the works.

For the integration of part of the metal supports into the masonry, undisturbed cutting was carried out at the crossing points and then connecting them to the gunite reinforcement.

The construction of the load-bearing structure included beams and columns made of ductile iron of various cross-sections, bolted connections and trapezoidal sheet metal Symdeck.

Following the requirements of the architectural studies, the external walls were constructed with the knauf dry construction system while the shell was insulated with a system of external insulation made of graphite polystyrene.

The interior floor coverings were made using Iroko wood glued, the balconies were covered with deck, while the exterior spaces at the entrance level were covered with Dionysos marble.

For the heating of the interiors and the production of hot water, heat pumps by Hitachi and LG were installed, while for the cooling multi systems by LG were installed. Gas fireplaces with a powervent system were also installed as an auxiliary heating system.

Finally, regarding the handling of the electromechanical systems, a knx system was installed in each apartment with configuration possibilities according to the user’s needs.
